I recently ran a 2-week dressing challenge to try and encourage people to really see what they have in their wardrobe. I loved it, the challenge forced me to think every morning to ensure that not only did I look different every day, but wore different clothing pieces to rotate the wardrobe.
Say I normally wear black jeans as a quick go to, well I couldn’t. I wore a variety of black jeans, blue jeans, wide leg black pants, skirts and dresses all in various colours.
I could see what clothes I liked and decided to donate a few as we all have clothes that sit there, waiting to be worn, but never see the light of day.
The challenge items included: A dress, biggest earrings, longest boots, blazer, bright colour, patterns, stripes, skirt, denim jacket, heels, white top, animal print, extra accessories, and a tonal colour outfit.
I do not like full length photos of myself but as I was the instigator, I had to come out of my comfort zone. My son Kai, gladly took the photos before school most days. He was so patient with me and did a great job for a 6-year-old. I was very proud to see that he can listen to instruction when he has an interest in something.
I also worked out how to pose a bit better in full length photos. (The trick seems to be to point everything, knees/toes/hands/face, don’t stand fully front on, always have a slight turn and have open spaces between your arms/legs from your torso….and of course decent lighting – preferably daylight).
Since the 2 weeks I have bought a few new items. I was given a few compliments on a floral bomber jacket, so I bought a new one. I also purchased a few dresses full of colour as I could see the same colours being worn over and over. I don’t want to be stuck in the same look/colours. I love change.
The wrap up from this is that I made use of more of my clothes, was proud of my son, donated clothes I do not want, built up courage and self-esteem from having to post full length photos of myself, had more interaction with other women and their wardrobes, bought a few new items and have continued with my red lipstick and very big earrings for fun new change! Oh, and as an added bonus I received compliments which are always appreciated! Win! Win! Win!
To see the daily outfits, look back through my Gorgeous-you fb or Insta pages, was only a few weeks ago.
I will do another one soon via FB and Insta - join in, see what changes this makes for you in such a short time.
